A TASTE OF PHILLY

2432 S Colorado Blvd Denver, CO 80222-5907 ph.-(303)-757-3944
There is a place called" A Taste of Philly" in Denver, Colorado on Colorado Boulevard. We live in Colorado Springs and there are 4 or 5 places here that sell cheesesteaks, but they have a mound of meat and onions already fried up and they sit on the grill all day. When you order, you get this slop they call a cheesesteak. So we started hunting around in Denver and found this little gem of a place. The guy who runs it is from Yeadon and sounds and acts just like home.
Does anyone know where to get a good soft pretzel in Colorado or better yet , the recipe for pretzels. A goood business idea. Stand on the corners in Colorado and sell pretzels?
Bon Appetit!

JUICY LUCY'S

308 7th St., Glenwood Springs, CO PH-(970)-945-4619
I've never had a Philly Cheese steak that is authentic and not too greasy. There is this small restaurant in Glenwood Spring, CO. that is across the street from the train station called Juicy Lucy's. I believe that is the name of the nice little restaurant. So, if your train is ever late or you're not in a hurry to get to your destination, stop by this place. They have other fabulous stuff.

LARGE MARGE'S

3890 Kipling St., Wheat Ridge, CO PH-(303) 463-4549
Hi: I'm a South Philly guy who just got back from a business trip in Colorado and stumbled across this gem on 3890 Kipling Street in Wheat Ridge called Large Marge's. They had the most fabulous cheesesteaks, just like at home. The rolls were so soft and fresh, which is hard to find outside of Philly, and the meat was so tender and delicious. The South Philly people know that the secret is in the soft Amoroso roll, and Marge sure got that right. I even loved the homemade hot sauce! Marge is a transplanted South Philly girl with her son Shawn at the grill. What a great team they make! They really give the place a real homey atmosphere. I went back several times during my stay in Colorado and I never felt like I left home. They have the best cheesesteaks west of the Mississippi!! It made me feel like I was eating a cheesesteak near my home at Broad & Passyunk Avenue. I wish them a lot of luck and success. Ed B. - Philadelphia, PA

You should add these guys to your list - they have great cheesesteaks (top notch hoagies!) in Colorado (and no, they are not affiliated with the PA Pat's -- the owner's name is Pat and he is from PA, though!) Here's their new website: http://www.patscheesesteaks.com/ --- read their reviews

Editor's note: I have learned that PHILLY BILLY'S in Estes Park, CO has closed due to the death of the proprietor. I am leaving this entry up as a tribute to Philly Billy, who brought part of the City of Brotherly Love out to many satisfied customers stranded out in the Rockies. Rest in Peace, Billy, you will be missed out there.
To clear up any confusion, there is no business connection between the Philly Billy's in Harrisonburg, VA and the Colorado Philly Billy's. --The Editor

PHILLY BILLY'S

401 W Elkhorn Ave Estes Park, CO 80517-9030 ph.-(970)-586-0383
Yo, Cuz! I'm a 16 th n' Wolf vetran who's been trapped in Northern Colorado for a year now. There is a place in Estes Park CO called Philly Billy's thats got the closest thing to home goin'. I went in there and this snow-boarding reject asked for a "steak and cheese"! They had to hold me down. I called him an unwashed hippie and told him this ain't the subway! I asked if he saw a Market-Frankford Line sign any where but this only confused the poor snow soaked burn-out even more so I tossed a Tasty-Kake at it, told him to learn how to dress himself, and proceeded to chow down. There are 6 places in Denver that claim Cheesesteakdom and even 1 in Cheyenne Wyoming, all of which I am fearful to visit, for food poisoning. These people are paranoid. They think being Italian is like another world or something! Trapped in Colorado-Zack
