CAPTAIN HARVEY'S
1543 Merritt Blvd, Dundalk, MD PH-(410) 288-8990
CAPTAIN HARVEY'S is my official entry for best cheesesteak in
Baltimore(actually, Dundalk). There are two locations in Dundalk- Merritt
Blvd. and
Dundalk Avenue, respectively. Capt. Harvey's is state-famous for its
ample
portions of steak and fried onions. Most patrons report not being able to
finish all of the steak included on merely a half cheesesteak, the whole
cheesesteak being a gluttonous undertaking. From roll to steak, this is
some of the most Dundalk-famous, grease indulgent bits of heaven one can
encounter in Baltimore's culinary scene. One drawback- you must yell your
order across an ever-present line of patrons, a truly Dundalk experience.

You can talk all about cheese steaks but you’ll be talking about 2nd place until you mention Captain Harvey’s in the Logan Village Shopping Center in Dundalk!!
Monster helpings of beef, and ALL the fixins, with REAL CHEESE, not that Cheez Wiz crap they pass off in Philly!!
ANYONE can eat 2 or more Philly versions, but I challenge you to find ANYONE who can eat more than 1 from the Captain!!
Delicious, packed with everything!!! And what other cheese steak is FED EX’d to loyal lovers as far away as California?
Only 1 king---Captain Harveys!

FALLS ROAD CARRYOUT
4100 Falls Road, Baltimore, MD PH-(410) 243-5939
[Captain Harvey's] are HUGE.............but I've had a few tough ones over the years.
I'm just saying they are not perfect....always good....but not perfect.
One thing that bugs me is that you can get provolone on the Italian Cold Cut but not the cheesesteak.
I have a problem with that. My vote for Balto's Best is the Falls Road Carry Out at Falls & 41st.

JAKE'S STEAKS
Rt. 2 & 214, Edgewater, MD
For my money and taste buds, you can't beat Jake's Steaks in Edgewater, MD!
Located in the South Colony Shopping Center at the intersection of Rte. 2 and 214, just south of Annapolis,
Jake's offers excellent cheesesteaks on delicious rolls. The walls are decorated with an assortment of
pictures of the classic South Philly shops. So, if you're in the Annapolis area and crave a genuine
Philly Cheesesteak, stop by Jake's!

By far the the best cheesesteak you'll ever taste. I refuse to compare their
cheesesteaks to Philly's legends of Geno's or Pat's. Respect to their tradition.
However, I prefer putting Southern Maryland's Jeno's 8inch cheesesteak in a class by
there own. A taste of perfection to your palate I call it They are not an
assembly-line establishment where the meat is already on the grill even before you
order, causing the meat to dry out. Can you say Capt. Harvey's? Gross. They cook
to order in front of you. Those who enter Jeno's will walk out with feeling that they
found a diamond in ruff. How many places can you find that have so much artillery to
back up their subs like Jeno's. 1st of all the quality is top notch from their rolls
which are authentic southy philly rolls, deliverered from Lil Italy in Baltimore.
Also, they are the only place I know that cuts their Rib-Eye daily. None of that
portioned-packaged-frozen-processed steak-ums that you find at the impersonators.
Furthermore Jeno's doesn't weigh their meet. Straight from the meat slicer to the
grill. The Jeno's staff where shirts that say "Harassing the cook will only result
in smaller portions." Not that it's true by suggest that you leave the cook alone.
You can't beat that. What makes this lil engine unique it has been family owned for
almost 16 years. For this family the making of a cheesesteak is like creating a
Piccasso. For those who are regulars can count on being called on a first name basis.
Everyone wants that feeling right. A place we can consider our own "Cheers" bar.
"Get hooked" is their motto and those who enter their doors will understand why.
I challenge anyone claiming to having the best cheesesteak in Maryland, Deleware,
D.C, PA to step up to the plate, dare to walk into Jeno's. Have a bite of their
cheesesteak and still walk away claiming you have the best cheesesteak.
Yeah right!!

KING'S SUBS AND PIZZA
4414 Powder Mill Rd,Beltsville,MD PH: (301) 937-9117
I would like to recommend King Subs and Pizza in
Beltsville, Md. I stumbled upon this little pizza/sub
shop about 4 years ago when driving by. It is a
traditional little pizza shop with many other tasty
menu items. Their cold cut subs are really good.
However, I really enjoy the taste of the cheesesteaks
here. They are by far my favorite around. I prefer
them to other major restaurants. I have been to Philly
and had Cheesteaks before. This is the only place near
me that I believe can compare.

Just stumbled across your great site "bestcheesesteaks.com" a couple months ago.
I live in southern maryland where you just cant get a good cheesesteak anywhere, in fact in
this neck of the woods they call them "Steak & Cheese Subs" and they are a whopping 4 to 6 incher.
Moved here about 14 years ago from Pennsauken New Jersey where as a child we looked forward to Cheesesteak night every week.
Well, "Oh My GOD!!! Just two weeks ago this place opened and advertised on all our local radio stations
that they were serving Southern Maryland’s Best Cheesesteak. I didn’t believe it so I had to Check it out!
"THEY DID IT" Starting on the outside with a 16" amoroso roll, Meat and oil the owner says he goes to
Philly to get and Whiz, lots of wonderfull wiz with all the toppings. The locals are catching on fast, and
wouldn’t you know the guy running the place is another displaced South Jersey'n. Check it out if you are
in town and close your eyes, it’ll feel like home.
PS: The place was remodeled to look like a train station and has a lot of railroad memorabilia, antiques and pictures. They even ring the old Steam Engine Bell when your order is ready. Really Cool.

MAGERK'S PUB
1061 S. Charles St., Baltimore, MD PH-(410) 576-9230
Here you go ! Originally from Philly, and go to MaGerks in Federal Hill
in Baltimore. Located next to the famous Cross Street Market. MaGerks
opened up I believe in late 2000. They get rolls delivered daily from
Philly. If you don't have the roll from philly, you're screwed ! They
make great steak sandwiches and the service is quick. The Hoagies
aren't that hot and to be honest with you oustide philly hoagies are
hard to find anywhere even in New Jersey. But MaGerks is top shelf.
Highly recommend it.

THE MUSICAL INN
310 S. Philadelphia Blvd. (Rt. 40), Aberdeen, MD PH-(410) 272-2027
While I've been fortunate enough to live down the street from Leo's (in Darby) and have
eaten more than my share of their pizza steaks, I find it hard to get there everyday from
my new home in Aberdeen, Md. (Exit 85 off I-95). If there are any travelers out there,
stop by "The Musical Inn" on U.S. Route 40 in Aberdeen for the best Philly Steak
south of the Pa border. Take Exit 85 east (Md Rt 22) to U.S. Route 40 west (about 3 miles)
to "The Musical Inn". It sits on the right side of the road just before
MacDonalds.

REAL THING
412 York Rd., Towson, MD PH-(410) 583-7211
You might want to check sub shops in Baltimore out. First, The Real Thing in
Towson has an amazing cheesesteak. And second, Harry Little's (about ten blocks
south of the Real Thing on York road) both are amazing cheese steaks, although I
personally think that the real thing is better.

For anyone looking for a "Philly Style" cheese steak.........YOU HAVE TO TRY STEW'S!
They have the fattest, most delicious steaks and cheese hoagies. And the best home
made cakes. Owned and operated by Toi and Larry Stewart. Mr. Stewart is a former
Bullets basketball player. Stew's is the best I have ever tasted.
