BIG JOHN'S
Rt. 73, Cherry Hill, NJ
In all the years I lived in the Philadelphia area, the best cheesesteak I've ever had is
at Big John's on Route 73 in Cherry Hill. They are to die for. Everyone that came to visit
me was introduced to cheesesteaks at Big John's. On every return visit they made it a must
that Big John's had to be revisited. Kinda made me wonder if it was me or Big John's that
was the reason for the return visit :)

BJ's
Mt. Laurel, NJ
BJ's in Rancocas Woods (Creek Rd off 295 Exit 43) in Mt Laurel, NJ. I have Gaetano's and
Big Johns to choose from and always end up at BJ's. As a matter of fact, after Flyers
games my crew often like to go to Pat's in South Philly. I tried, I now often pass. I'll
simply pick up a BJ's steak the next day. My dad, who lives in Delaware County, always
holds off on his urges to buy cheesesteaks at home until he visits me.

BRADLEY'S STEAKS & HOAGIES
107th & 3rd Ave., Stone Harbor, NJ
I've had Philly cheesesteaks from Mendocino to Marrakech. Granted, I'm from the Delaware
Valley, where we know our cheesesteaks, pizza, Breyers ice cream, TastyKakes, and pork
roll. But the best Philly cheesesteak I've ever had, bar none, is at Bradley's Steaks and
Hoagies, 107th and 3rd Ave., Stone Harbor, New Jersey. Only open during the summer. Load
the boats. Check it out.

DONKEY'S PLACE
1223 Haddon Ave., Camden PH:(856) 966-2616
I am sure you have heard of this bar called Donkey's Place at 1223 Haddon Avenue in
Camden, NJ. Man, this is a hidden secret, most people in South Jersey don't even know
about it! Served on a Kaiser Roll with onions and special spices, these steak
sandwiches should be tried by anyone brave enough to venture off the beaten path.
Though it is in the heart of urban decay, it stands out with its sign and maintained
front. It is located about five minutes from Rutgers University's Camden Campus and
Cooper University Hospital and UMDNJ. I highly recommend this place to the serious
cheesesteak connoisseur.

one of Frank's personilized gourmet pizza's. Make sure to say "Hi" to Ann,
Frank's wife, and please tell them Peter sent you.

GAETANO'S
Willingboro, NJ
My favorite cheesesteak is that of Gaetano's in WIllingboro NJ off Rt. 130 North, on
Pennypacker Road. The "Small" runs about 6 bucks. It goes about 12 inches, with
a good roll (very thick, aside from Amoroso's the best I've had) , and they absolutely
fill it to the hilt with some of the best steak meat around. Very filling and satisfying.

JOE'S STEAK SHOP
Phillipsburg N.J.
WELL JOHN,I AM BORN AND RAISED IN NORTH JERSEY,WORKED IN PHILLY, AND CHERRY HILL FOR
THE LAST 30 YEARS. I HAVE EATEN STEAKS ALL OVER PHILLY AND SOUTH JERSEY. THESE ARE ALL
GREAT,BUT THE PROBLEM IS THEY ALL TASTE THE SAME. THE BEST COME FROM NORTH
JERSEY,PHILLIPSBURG. JOE'S STEAK SHOP IN DOWNTOWN PHILLIPSBURG HAS BEEN SERVING STEAKS FOR
60 YEARS THIS YEAR. COMPARED TO SOUTH PHILLY PRICES,THESE ARE A STEAL AT $3.40 WITH THE
WORKS,FRIED ONIONS,HOT PEPPERS,MUSHROOMS, ETC. AND OF COURSE THE DIFFERENCE IS THE
HOMEMADE STEAK SAUCE. YOUR READER'S HAVE GOT TO TRY ONE, OR TWO, ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE
TRIED OF EATING THE SAME OLD PHILLY STEAK.

SEAGRAVE'S STEAKS & SUBS
Tilbury Rd., Elsinboro, NJ I'm originally from south Jersey and I am now living
in the San Francisco Bay Area. The best CHEESESTEAK without a doubt is served by Ronnie
Seagraves @ SEAGRAVES STEAKS & SUBS in Elsinboro (Salem Co.) NJ. He is the KING OF
CHEESESTEAKS!!! The shop used to be called "Thelma's"(his mother) and has been
in business for well over thirty years! They are take out only. Were talking 1 1/2+
lb.sandwiches. Daily baked rolls, fresh sliced rib-eye, and a secret sauce that is second
to none. Unbelieveable subs too. They are located on Tilbury Rd. in Elsinboro. Take 95
south to the Deleware Mem. Bridge, go into NJ and head east on rt. 49 for about 8 miles.
After you go over a small drawbridge you'll come to a trafic light. go thru it and make
the next right. this will lead to Tilbury Rd. and they are up about a mile on the left.
The shop is nothing fancy just a well kept secret of the best Cheesesteak on earth! Well
worth the trip! ENJOY!!!

SOUTH PHILLY CHEESESTEAKS
Cherry Hill Mall, NJ
The best cheesesteaks I have ever eaten were at SOUTH PHILLY CHEESESTEAKS in the cherry
hill mall. They also have stores in other malls in n.j..They have an excellent tasting
meat with real Kraft cheese whiz on their steaks. Most of the other steak houses use
imitation cheeses. They also have a condiment bar with hot peppers and hot sauce. I have
heard people say they come all the way from Phila. to buy steaks there, I know why!!

STEAK OUT
Route 541 & Woodland Rd., Westampton, N.J. PHONE: (609)-265-2784
You will NOT go away hungry from this place! I ordered a small cheesesteak, and this thing was huge!
3/4 lb. of meat ON A SMALL and I could barely finish it all. Their large is advertised as having a full pound of meat.
Because they cook to order there is usually a delay in getting served, but it is well worth the wait! Call ahead to
avoid the wait. At first glance I was skeptical of the roll, which has sesame seeds on it. I kept an open mind, and
found it to be fresh and actually quite impressive. Great Cheese Fries too, they even offer 5 different cheeses on them!
All in all, I was very pleased, and will definitely be returning again on my next visit to Westampton, where my fiance's parents reside.

SUB SHOPPE
Rt. 73, Maple Shade, NJ
Hello.I have read some of your listings and decided to inform you about a place called the
"Sub Shoppe". It is located off of Rt. 73 in Maple Shade, New Jersey. Just look
for the big water tower on Fellowship Rd. until you spot a blue building with a pink neon
sign that says "Sub Shoppe." I have heard that people from different towns and
states come for their steaks. The selection of steaks and subs come in two sizes:
10in./$4.20 and 20in./8.40. You can choose to have whatever you would like to have on your
steak. Options include: cheese(Amer.,Provo.,Chedd.,Swiss,or Mozz.); lettuce and tomato;
bacon; fried or raw onions; mush, green peppers, pepperoni; or a combination of toppings.
Looking at their menu, they have about 15 different subs and about 20 different side
orders.

THE GEM
South Seaville, NJ
I am from South Jersey, right offshore from Sea Isle City. Let me tell you that the best
cheesesteak in Cape May County belongs to The Gem in South Seaville (my town). Right on
the corner of Main St. and Corson-Tavern road, check it out if your down the shore this
summer. Also thanx for the gr8 page. I am currently in school at the University of
Mississippi and I miss Philly and South Jersey life so much. I'd kill for a REAL
cheesesteak right about now. I'm watching the FLYERS play Colorado on ESPN2 and when I saw
your page it brought a tear to my eye (really). So thanx for that great taste of home.

WHITE HOUSE SUB SHOP
Arctic & Missouri Sts., Atlantic City, NJ
There is another place that is just as intriguing. But, it is not in Philadelphia. It is
the White House Sub Shop in Atlantic City N.J. It is located at Arctic and Missouri sts.
It is an experience that should be enjoyed any time of year. The most amazing thing about
the sandwiches there are the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Well worth an
hour's drive from Philly.
Submitted by Joseph Ricciardi (JOSEPH_RICCIARDI@wow.com), Oct. 17, 1996
A personal favorite of mine is The White House Sub Shop in Atlantic City. Arguably, the
best bread (rolls) PERIOD! A friend used to Fed-ex 6 whole steaks, crushed hot peppers on
the side and even a small jar of oil from the White House to pour on the meat when
re-heating out here where I live in Los Angeles. I have flown to Philly from L.A. for the
sole purpose of getting my fix. No matter what anyone says, and I've tried practically all
of them, THERE IS NO GOOD PHILLY STEAK SANDWICH IN THIS TOWN (LA), although, on my never
ending quest, I will check out Papa Jake's Sub Shoppe in Manhattan Beach sometime next
week. Forever hopeful, but always disappointed,

Editor's note: See Jay's rave review of PAPA JAKE'S in the California section. It looks
like he's finally found a winner out there!
Heres a very BIG VOTE for White House, In Atlantic City, NJ. I honestly tell you that the first
steak I had from there was the Best thing I have ever eaten. I have never had an
experience like that before. I was surreal. I was like sex the first time, A total shock.
Gotta get one. Phat pix on the wall add to the experience. (everyones been there).
