EDITOR'S CHOICE: POP'S PHILLY STEAKS, LAS VEGAS
501 S. Decatur at Alta- (702)-878-6444
OK, folks, we have found authentic Philly Cheesesteaks in Las Vegas!
Pop's Philly Steaks is the real deal! Visited Pop's and found a delicious sandwich that
reminded me of back home. The meat to roll ratio was pleasing, the roll was perfect, and the steak was
superb. When I asked the grill master where they get such good rolls, he ran into
the kitchen and emerged with two boxes... one with the legendary Amoroso's logo on it, and
another that read Liberty Bell Steaks, Philadelphia, PA. Can't get much more authentic
than that! As a matter of fact, their grill master
claims that they order on average 8,000 lbs. of steak each month direct from South Philly to supply both locations.
I was so excited that I phoned in an order a few days later, and in true Philly fashion, the order-taker
was disgruntled when I didn't know the menu number and did not follow proper protocol according to their
menu. Indeed, on further inspection, the menu does include a "HOW TO ORDER" paragraph, which made me feel right
at home. I'd like to share it with you:
HOW TO ORDER: Tell your server number the number of the steak you would like. Decide whether you want
beef or chicken. Next, would you like grilled sweet onions at no extra charge. If so say "WIT", if not say "WIT-OUT."
We charge $1.00 extra to read your mind. Now wait to be served the best damn Philly you ever tasted. 8 oz. of our best blended
steak or chicken on a 9-inch roll and seasoned to perfection. ENJOY
When in Las Vegas this is a rare sure bet. Whether you're a local, or just passing through, you 'gotta try a Pop's cheesesteak!
One other great feature: They are open 24/7... You gotta love Vegas, a true 24 hour town!
You can check out the POP's Cheesesteaks website for some pictures of their excellent cheesesteaks!
UPDATE: Feb. 26, 2006- Pop's location on E. Tropicana is now closed; it is now called Papa's, I haven't reviewed the new place yet.

Multiple Locations in the Las Vegas Valley (also in AZ,DE,MD,NJ,PA
When I first moved to Las Vegas, I asked the locals where to find a good cheesesteak. Capriotti's was a very popular reply. So I decided to check
them out myself. There are locations all over the Las Vegas Valley, I visited the Sunset Rd. location in Henderson.
Their menu boasts "The Best of Delaware; Serving the East Coast for 29 years." So right away I knew their was hope. It turns out that
they have several locations in DE, MD, NJ, PA and AZ. as well. See the link above for their website and locations.
I was starving that day, so I ordered a large with sweet peppers and fried onions. I did experience about a 20-minute wait, but I was there in the heart
of the lunch rush just after noon on a weekday. The wait was well worth it. The large cheesesteak was huge, on a 20-inch roll that was of exceptional quality.
I had plenty of time to analyze the grill master at work, and he knew what he was doing. He grilled the beef to perfection, and added the peppers, onions, and cheese at precisely the right time.
During my wait, I also noticed several customers ordering various versions of Capriotti's specialty sandwiches, mainly The "Bobbie", which are made with Turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce.
I chatted with a few customers as they waited, and they raved about these Thanksgiving style sandwiches.
On the drive home, my hunger grew to epic proportions as the aroma of the sandwich enveloped my Ford Escape. Upon arriving home, I devoured my delicious cheesesteak in record time.
It was a tough task consuming the whole sandwich, it was huge; well worth the money, and
quite generous in proportions. The sweet peppers were perfect, and there was plenty of cheese. A rare combination of quality and quantity!
My only regret was that I forgot to specify provolone.
Apparently American cheese is their default, but they do serve provolone on request. I have seldom been so satisfied after a sandwich.
I was delighted to learn that there is a location closer to home on E. Flamingo that delivers! I will be ordering often, and highly
recommend Capriotti's to visitors of this web site.

A large Capriotti's Cheesesteak will surely fill you up!
GERI'S PHILLY STEAKS
INSTANT REPLAY
9495 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, NV PH-(702)-269-7297
Stopped in at Instant Replay on LV Blvd. south of the strip yesterday to set up a beer promotion (my FT job), and ended up discovering a really good Philly cheesesteak.
The day bartender, Terri, the loveable sexy redhead, is the Best! She made me feel right at home and convinced me to stay for lunch.
I struggled with the decision to order a stromboli or cheesesteak, but chose the latter just in case it was worthy of inclusion on this web site.
I was pleasantly surprised when my sandwich arrived. The steak was cooked just right, and they use a nice cut of ribeye which was tender, juicy and flavorful.
The roll was superb, they use a local bakery called "Great Buns" which must be named after Terri the bartender ;-) This roll was soft and fresh,
a pleasant surprise for local bakeries out here. The onions probably could have been cooked a tad longer, but all in all the sandwich surpassed all my
expectations, and I savored every bite. I highly recommend this establishment, for a sports bar the food is excellent and the staff goes the extra mile for
their customers. As good as the Philly was, I can't wait to return and try their strombolis, I have heard great things about them.
Stop in for lunch during the week, and make sure you sit at the bar. Say hi to Terri and tell her "Newcastle John" sent you there.
You won't be disappointed!
