PHILADELPHIA 'S STEAKS AND HOAGIES

6410 SE Milwaukee Ave., Portland Oregon
6410 SE Milwaukee Ave., Portland Oregon In you are ever lost in the Northwest and close to Portland, Oregon, it's worth a stop at a place named Philadelphia's Steaks and Hoagies located at 6410 SE Milwaukie Avenue, Portland, Oregon. Not the best cheesesteaks from back home, but the best in the area. It's the only place I've found in Portland to get Tastykakes (When you are away from home as long as I've been, you can miss almost anything.) I get nostalgic visiting your web site. Much appreciated. By the way, the Portland, Oregon version of the Eagles' fan club (The Eagles' Nest) used to meet at Philadelphia's.

PHILLY WEST

Highway 101, just north of Yachats, Oregon
My credentials: I grew up just outside of Philly, 18 yrs. My parents own a small business in Old City. Then I moved there 18-24. I have eaten them. I am a Cheesesteak Junkie.
My mission: Here's the deal. I have for 6 years been searching diligently for the best cheesesteak in all of Oregon. Note that I didn't say good, just whatever is best.
My method: I order a cheesesteak at EACH and EVERY new diner or eatery that I visit, provided that it is on the menu. No matter how likely it is to be good or bad, I will order it. Just today for lunch I had a cheesesteak at the Country Cafe in Blodgett, OR. How was it? Well, the waitress was nice, let's just put it that way... I am often disappointed, but no one said this would be easy.
My conclusion: So, far, I can confidently say that the BEST CHEESESTEAK, in all of Oregon, is ..... (drumroll) ....
*** PHILLY WEST ***
just north of Yachats.
These people drive to Crescent City, CA weekly to retrieve Amoroso's bread flown out from Philly. Ever notice how cheesesteaks can turn soft on you? Amoroso's helps keep it together. Good bread makes a cheesesteak great - and this is where most places fall flatter than flat.
Philly West is the real deal.
They got Tastykakes
They got Franks Soda
They got real meat sent from Philly.
Its small and dingy!
They got all the Philly junk and trinkets hanging up all over the place.
They got an old lady Philly transplant working the kitchen, colorful old racist lady from Kensington. Creates a moral conundrum for me, but she whips up a MEAN steak. They even have Pizza Steaks! This place is the real deal - do not miss it!
